What abundance this spring is providing. The growth of nature, the events of the sky and the opportunities for personal, professional, and community gathering abounds. Last Saturday the Author Event at The Playful Soul was rich and full of a variety of folks seeking "something else," for a deeper understanding of life. Which is precisely what spring is all about . . . uncovering the new growth that colors the earth with richness and beauty. "Looks Far Woman" is the Clan Mother for April. She teaches us how to appreciate all the colors of life, in order to "See the Truth," all around us, especially within ourselves.
Dancing Flame Medicine Lodge invites you to check out our third Thursday of each month's Wisdom Circle. You just may find a new friend, or become a valuable friend to yourself! This gathering is open to all interested souls seeking "something else," for a deeper understanding of life. Bring an open heart, curious mind and a friend to travel with. It is a beautiful drive from the busy city to the freshly plowed fields in Morgan County. And the trees, oh my goodness, you can practically hear them unfold the sprouts of leaves! Thursday, April 18, from 6:30-8p.m we will gather to "Share a Story." It may be one you read, are writing, a poem, or experienced first-hand. What matters is taking the action to show up and find out if the Wisdom circle is the place your heart has been guiding you to. If only for one evening, give us a try. Read a bit more about the Wisdom circle on the Events page. Using the Mandala as a Compass retreat is being offered Saturday, April 20, and Saturday, June 15. This retreat is an updated one that was offered the spring of 2023, and March 16, 2024. The richness of this retreat offers attendees the opportunity to learn simple ways to find and keep balance in their lives. Of course, as with all retreats, it lasts as long as what you learned is practiced. You will leave the retreat with a personal Mandala created by and for you specifically as a useful tool. Read more about this retreat on the Community Events page. As always, contact Vicky with any questions. The deadline to sign up is April 16. If June fits better in your schedule, let us know and we'll put you down as interested. With the teachings of the seven sacred directions, we will help you find your "True North!" Here's to Feeding your Growth, and adding richness and beauty to Spring!

April has been true to its reputation and provided the inhabitants of Earth a front row seat to witness the unfolding beauty of nature. All of our senses can be used to observe this natural phenomenon. Without any actions on our part, nature does what is in rhythm with the cycles of life and offers us the opportunity to simply sit back, observe, and enjoy. There is so very much we can learn from nature, if we only “pay attention.” Perhaps all the busyness, hurry, scurry, and self-inflicted pressures we put on ourselves and others would be lightened if we simply saw nature as a powerful Teacher. Whatever is brewing in our heads will come to fruition with ease and a bit of effort on our part if we simply notice the manner in which nature unfolds. In other words, lovingly quiet that chattering head mind and listen more to the rhythm of nature as it offers a simple, peaceful way to allow life to unfold. This is how the world changes and true Growth occurs; one peaceful warrior at a time!
Opportunities for Growth: Check out our Resource tab for an ample listing of very wise communities and Teachers that offer a plethora of ways to live a full and rich life.
This is a reminder the deadline to sign up for the Mandala retreat next Saturday, March 16 from 1-4 p.m. is Wednesday, March 13. If you have read Book Two, "Walking a Sacred Path," you are familiar with a few ways the Mandala may be used. This retreat will expand the teachings in the book and offer attendees the opportunity to make a personal Mandala to use on a regular basis. Last year at the beginning of each season; Summer, Fall and Winter, we reconnected via Zoom or email exchanges to share any insights from the prior season and speak of what their heart is calling forth for the upcoming season. It helped make Using the Mandala an even more personal tool; not to mention bond those that participated even more deeply. The creation of that seasonal "check-in" seemed to evolve from the retreat, it is not a requirement for the participating in the retreat next Saturday, March 16.
Go to our Community Events page, read a bit more about this offering and sign up by March 13 if you plan to attend. Please note: Reading Book Two is not a requirement for this retreat! Bring an open heart and a curious mind along with the items mentioned on the Community Events page and enjoy an afternoon with like-minded people. As always any questions may be directed to Vicky at [email protected]. Enjoy the breath-taking beauty bursting forth from Earth Mother and remember it is a reflection of what is being brought forth in your life! Please excuse a few errors on my last post, "Spring into March," and reread it with corrections. Color me human! Vicky
With February winding down, we surely feel abundant gratitude for the glorious face of Grandfather Sun! The weather has been tremendous as well; and yet, from my perspective, having the warmth of the sun makes whatever weather we receive more acceptable. That said, it does make me wonder what the March weather will bring. "In like a lion, out like a lamb", or vice versa? What we do know is Spring will herald in the warm months that offer a multitude of outdoor activities adorned with colorful flowers, greenery and the rich fullness of the Standing Ones (trees).
Those of us with Irish ancestry will lift a mug of brew on March 17 in celebration and respect for those who walked before us. It is their courage, strength, playfulness, simplicity and love of life that runs through our veins. Whether you are of Irish descent or not, find a local pub or gathering place celebrating this marvelous day and just feel the air. I dare you not to feel joy in your heart! If the brew is not for you, order some form of Irish food, it is certain to have potatoes incorporated in every the dish. The Spring Equinox on Tuesday, March 19 at 11:06 p.m. officially heralds in the season of spring. In many indigenous cultures, this is the beginning of a new year, a time to put into action the dreams you had during the quiet, contemplative time of the winter season. If your New Year's resolution has fallen away, or become a chore, March 19 provides another opportunity to choose a new course for 2024. If you would like to learn more about the indigenous teachings of the four seasons and the wisdom of the seven sacred directions, consider signing up for the Saturday, March 16, Mandala retreat. (Details are on our events page.) You will certainly gain a great deal of knowledge about the Four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter and the specific gifts each season offers us to live each day with purpose and intention. Another very valuable source of strength and clarity is offered through making your own personal drum. Sunday, March 3, a Drum making ceremony is being offered. There are currently only two available openings. Details are available on the Community Events page. Listen to your heart; you will know if this is for you. In conclusion, enjoy every single moment of this precious life. If you need some inspiration, check out our "Deepening into Wisdom" circle that meets the third Thursday of each month. The March Clan Mother, Weighs the Truth, will be heralded in at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, February 25. She offers us teachings on Accepting the Truth and is the Keeper of Equality and Guardian of Justice. Go to the Teachings tab and click on the 13 Original Clan Mother page to learn more about her, and to consider a few questions that may help you Accept the Truth in your life. Check the Events page regularly for more opportunities to meet others seeking a rich and full life and participate in some events that might stir your heart. Until then, enjoy the last sweet days of February and prepare to Spring into March with a curious, seeking heart. As we enter the month of February, a great deal is packed into this short month. For most people February brings Valentine's Day to center stage. Hearts, flowers, candy, romance, are but a few words that come to mind. It is a known fact that many dread this holiday, particularly if your are single. Christmas and Valentine's Day are the two most difficult holidays for people who are unattached. However, pause for a moment and consider the love in your life. Perhaps, like me, you have been single for most of your life. Who's going to give you a Valentine's Day card, send flowers, and present you with a box of chocolates? The answer to those questions is simple; people who love you! Whether it be a sibling, child, grandchild, loving friend, or compassionate co-worker, does it really matter if you have a "significant other?" And, what about you? Do you treat yourself to a spa day, decadent dessert, new shoes, or a heart-shaped box of chocolates?
Pause this month and take a closer look at those that support you throughout the year. Chances are they show love to you all year long. As Forrest Gump taught us, "Life's a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get." And, yet, it is those people that consistently show up in your life that add the sweetness when some events are a bit bitter. Perhaps this year you might consider sending those loyal friends a card, a flower, a note that shares your appreciation for their presence in your life. Who knows, you may be reminding them someone "sees," appreciates and loves them . . . you may be offering them the "significant other" they feel is missing on Valentine's Day. There really is so very much sweetness to this very short month! Have an absolutely decadent month! Vicky EVENTS: The Deepening into Wisdom circle is Thursday, February 16 from 6:30-8 p.m. The focus this year is "Share a Story." Last month we spoke of ways messages are offered to help us make decisions, confirm a hunch, or build a dream. Consider joining us this month as we "Share a Story" of an experience or two that specifically contributed to our growth in wisdom. That is, what we learned we could do we may not have believed was possible. Through the support of others and life's experiences, we learned to appreciate and honor the truth of who we divinely are. Bring a cover for your lap, an open heart, and a friend if you wish, and check out the stories others may share. There is no charge for this gathering; however, a gifting bowl is present to receive whatever our heart chooses to exchange for what you received from attending. Everyone is welcome! "Using the Mandala" Retreat, will be held Saturday March 16, from 1-4 p.m. Last year's Mandala retreat was quite successful; therefore, we are offering this event again this year. Check out a few comments by those that attended last spring on the Community Events page of our website: www.headtohearttalks.com. This retreat will introduce participants to the various cultural teachings, history, and significance of the Mandala and ways in which it may be used in everyday life. Registration is required by Wednesday, March 13 to ensure sufficient supplies are available. Contact Vicky, [email protected] with questions and/or to sign up. When the Power of Love overcomes to Love of Power, the world will know Peace! Jimmy Hendrix Martin Luther King Jr's Day honors the human spirit that dreams of engaging the world with compassion and understanding in order to bring people of all cultures together in a peaceful way. The focus is on making a change in a peaceful way in order to support all human beings with accomplishing their dreams. As we all know, everyone has a dream within their Heart, and to achieve that goal requires strength and confidence. Those two qualities help us understand our own "story;" the values we hold dear and the Truths that support our actions. Just as important is the support of others. Living in a world without judgment or prejudice begins within each of us. Here is a clip of one of Dr. King's speeches:
"God give us leaders! A time like this demands strong minds, pure hearts and ready hands." The rest of his speech provides his personal beliefs of what qualities a leader much possess. His book, "I have a Dream" shares many of his teachings that are most important for today's world. Just as Martin Luther King Jr shared his story through words, his actions demonstrated those deep beliefs. This week is our first Deepening into Wisdom Circle, Thursday, January 18 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. we will begin a new focus for growing in wisdom. As referenced in the last blog the theme for this year is: "Sharing a Story." Each month a story will be told by a person ready to speak of an experience, a teaching, or a gift on their life that helped them strengthen their awareness in order to discover just how their life has unfolded. It may be in the form of a poem, a painting, a song, or another medium that their heart would like to express their story, so listen and following your Heart's direction. This circle is open to everyone that feels the call to attend. In light of the winter weather we are currently experiencing, Thursday looks like the best day of the week to venture out. A car pool would be lovely and supportive of an early sharing of what this first gathering might bring forth. If weather predictions change, which we know they do, this gathering may be scheduled as a Zoom meeting. Therefore, if you plan to attend, please let Vicky know by Wednesday afternoon, January 17. It is my experience, that an in person sharing offers a deeper energetic experience. Remember to bring a blanket for your lap, an open heart, a curious mind and a friend. There is no charge for this gathering, a gifting bowl is present for you to offer as a "thank you" for whatever gift you feel you received. The Clan Mother for January has been "Talks with Relations," who offers us ways to notice the gifts in many shapes and forms that are put in front of us to guide us on our path. January 25 at 12:54 p.m. the Wolf Full Moon heralds in the Clan Mother, Wisdom Keeper, for the month of February. She offers ways of honoring the Truth. Check out our 13 Clan Mother link to gain more teachings for both of these Clan Mothers. Until then, watch your dreams, you may be surprised what is brought forth. From my heart to yours, Vicky In 2023 we carefully examined our truths, which assisted us with "Claiming our Gifts." As we venture into our caves this winter, let us deepen a bit more into how those gifts came into form. Consider ways you were first introduced and inspired to the gifts that lie within your Heart. Is there a dream you had, a movie, a special book, or a person who inspired that interest? This year we will focus on "Sharing a story" about how that gift came to fruition. Consider joining us on this most important "Deepening into Wisdom" that lies within. If you have never attended the Wisdom circle, follow the call in your heart and join us one month. It just may be that someone's story will awaken your gift and be the inspiration you need to listen more carefully to the wisdom within your own heart.
Now that the holidays are in the rearview mirror, settle into the cave of winter and begin to dream about what you wish to be or do when Spring ushers in the next round on your Sacred Path around the Medicine Wheel of Life. Whether in words, symbols, pictures, music, or a particular craft, listen to the voice of your Heart and trust. Look over your shoulder (no staring) sit in the cave and in quiet meditation ask your heart to share an experience or two that was pivotal to developing that gift. Make it simple, succinct and wrap it in love as it is brought forth. Along with the joyful, playful times, remember, pain brings forth our beloved, treasured warrior. Rather than get stuck in those unpleasant memories, use those experiences to identify what you learned from that situation and ways you can use them to become your true, authentic self. This is how you can, "Be the Change you wish to see in the world." (Gandhi) Our first Deepening into Wisdom circle in Thursday, January 18 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. If you are unable to attend the January date, check our Events tab for another month's gathering date. Of course, if you have questions, please contact Vicky. We look forward to welcoming all called to attend! Bring a cover for your lap, a friend, and most importantly, an open heart! This circle does not require a commitment. There is a gifting bowl to offer a return, "thank you," for what you have received. With the Holiday's in full swing excitement fills the air with a very much needed lightness. 2023 has been a year of heaviness as we continue to witness the devastation of conflicts and wars abroad. Our country has much for which to be grateful and yet, our very foundation of democracy seems to be crumbling before our eyes. Whichever side of the never-ending feud between the Left and Right you are, it's time for us to come together for the good of all and reach across the table.
As fall draws to a conclusion, winter offers us the opportunity to step into a quiet space and listen with the "ears" of our heart to what our wiser self knows to be true for ourselves, our family, our community and our country. During this pivotal time of deep reflection take a peek at what your heart knows about making peace and let your ever chattering head "take a nap." During the long dark nights of winter, take a few moments each evening to ask yourself what you would like to see more of in the world. Without "thinking" about it, lovingly place a warm blanket over your napping head, close your eyes, take a deep breath and ask your heart that question. After ten minutes or so, open your eyes, grab a piece of paper or journal and, again, without "thinking" about it, write down whatever your heart had to say, whether in words or pictures. This simple exercise can be repeated as often as you wish. Make it a daily habit and watch life become a source of inspiration and endless possibilities. This may feel too difficult at first; however, like any new activity, given time and practice, it becomes much easier. Fact is, you may find yourself looking forward to some "heart" time. This is what the season of winter offers. You may find that as the weather moves toward spring, when you are peeking out of your cave, you will want to share some of your inspirations, visions, ideas, whatever word feels comfortable for you. Who knows, perhaps the person you share those with has been using winter in the same manner and is eager to hear you words and share their inspirations and visions. Such is the beauty of winter. Take the colorful lights, the spirited wonder of children, the warmth of family and friends and gift of democracy into your heart. Then watch winter become a time of rest, reconnection and a deepening into your soul. May winter be a blessed, heart-felt time of dreaming, creating and reconnecting your Head and Heart! From my heart to yours, Vicky Events: Check in after the first of the year for events at the Lodge. If you have suggestions for what you would like to know more about or would like to share something you're passionate about, let us know. We, too, are dreaming with winter and welcome your ideas. Nature's Offerings: Thursday, December 21 at 10:27 p.m. EST, the Winter Solstice officially welcomes the season of winter. It is a time to begin a new chapter, a fresh start, and a new beginning on Earth, and in your life. On a cosmic level, it is a new cycle of birth, growth, death in everything everything in nature. A great question to consider is: "What will come to life this year?" Full Moon and the gifts of the 13 Original Clan Mothers. Technically, the Full Moon, November 27 was the 12th moon of 2023. It heralded in the Clan Mother, Gives Praise. She the teacher of "Giving Thanks for the Truth," and the Keeper of Magic. She teaches us that "a change in perception, attitude and consciousness creates magic and miracles." The 13th Full moon arrives December 26 at 7:33 p.m. With that energy, Becomes Her Vision offers assistance with learning how to "Be the Truth." She teaches us how to bring forth our spiritual gifts to become a living vessel of love. She will help you examine what your heart is eagerly waiting and wanting to share. The Bear is most known for winter hibernation; however, did you know that turtles, snakes, wood frogs, and groundhogs, along with small mammals such as chipmunks and hamster also burrow away during the winter months? Let this season of introspection and rest be rich, full, and filled with the Love, Peace, and Prosperity in 2024 and may it be shared with the entire world ! We enter the abundantly rich month of November with great anticipation for the Holidays in front of us. Our spring board was the celebration of Trick or Treat time with the kids in our lives, be them our own or in our neighborhood. The very cold temps kept many homebound, although most celebrated early to ensure they got to be a "superhero" for at least one day. With bags full of goodies, their hearts were made ready for the next big event, Christmas!
Interesting how Thanksgiving seems to get glazed over, along with the ham, since to children it's just another day being plagued with "adults." Of course, the children that accompany the "big people" provide playmates for the day that makes all the adults talking baby talk to them do-able! Veteran's Day is a very important time for our country as we pause and consider those brave men and women who stepped forward to protect and defend our way of life. I am certain most of you reading this know of at least one person in your family that offered their self-less courage to serve in a branch of the military. With all the reminders of conflicts and destruction currently experienced in other countries, it certainly offers a "peek" at what many of the soldiers prepared to confront. Whether they served during war time or peace, these men and women serve the citizens of this country during times of disasters, riots, and other times of turmoil and unrest. Often times, they provide the extra set of hands that offer food, shelter and basic needs to our communities. We do indeed owe them a debt of gratitude. Beginning in 1990, November was designated as "Native American Heritage" month. Congress chose November since the month concludes the traditional harvest season and generally is a time of celebration and giving thanks. Yet another example of how differences can go from conflicts to peace given time, patience and a willingness to truly "see" each other as a reflection of ourselves. May this beautiful month that offers us a time to pause, celebrate, and gather, provide us the opportunity to truly notice the many blessings in our lives. Personally, I thank each of you for sharing your gifts and presence in the inspiring and uplifting gatherings offered here and throughout our communities. Grandmother Spider certainly brought us a beautiful gift when she demonstrated ways to weave the web of our lives with much love and gratitude, and how to strengthen the areas that may have hurt our hearts. For it is those difficult times that help us become wise, strong and compassionate! Always from the Heart, Vicky Events: The Deepening into Wisdom circle will host Victoria Williams Steen's, Personal Symbolism Visioning retreat, Thursday, November 16 from 6:30-8:00. Check out the Events tab, then click on the Community link for more information. It is certain to be most intriguing, and offer each participant the opportunity to re-discover a create way to "Deepen into the Wisdom" within their heart. Walks Tall Woman is the Clan Mother honored in the month of November. She carries the teaching of ways to "Walk in Truth," and the Guardian of Leadership and Keeper of New Pathways. "Walks Tall Woman shows us how to keep our eyes on the goal, our feet on the path, and the truth in our hearts, never waiting for another to do it for us!" Check out the 13 Original Clan Mother tab for a few questions to ponder as you walk your Sacred Path. Gifts from the Great Above: Sky Nation: November 13 at 4:27 a.m. the New Moon offers us the opportunity to pause and reflect on 1.) where we are, 2.) What we want to let go of, and 3.) What we are ready to bring forth. Then on November 27, the Beaver Full Moon, offers us, once again, the opportunity to examine our emotional interior. It is a time to surrender to the areas in our life that may be ready to be released, closed or ended as it pertains to various relationships. Such beautiful assistance Nature offers if we simply, put our mind in our pocket, turn on the ears of our Heart, and Pay Attention, Pay Attention, Pay Attention! That's about it for this moment. Enjoy the rounding out of fall, and like the Beaver, finish up what needs taken with you into the season of Winter. With a Grateful Heart, Vicky |
