It seems Phil the ground hog was correct, winter seems to be hanging around. Meterologically, March 1 is the beginning of Spring, that was created by humans to attempt to bring order to the shifts and changes of Earth. With that in mind, consider how the indigenous peoples made sense of the seasons; they looked to the sky and to the workings of Nature. What are the critters doing, are the leaves and ground cover beginning to show sprouts of newness and turn green? How about the stirrings from the animal kingdom; birds beginning to gather twigs, fallen leaves and other items that fell to the ground after the cold, quiet, darkness of winter for this year's babies? Just as important was the movement of the stars, moon and sun across the sky that guided those indigenous communities to learn how to live in harmony with all the inhabitants of Earth Mother. Back then being in right relationship was the primary means of survival. It wasn't just the humans that determined the "rules" to live by, it was respect for all of Earth's inhabitants. That said, astrologically, this year on March 21, at 10:46 a.m. the Spring Equinox heralds in Spring; the beginning of a new year, the beginning of a new round on the Sacred Walk of Life. Of course, the time changes from year to year, since nature has no permanent set time, it relies on the movement of the stars, sun, moon and Earth Mother to determine the precise date and time. I find it very interesting that humans have to interpret what nature knows. Think about that one; better yet, simply observe and pay attention to all the Creator/God's creations. You just may find a phelora of information to help you find whatever you seek answers to; be it personal, professional, or some other question or inner stirring you may have. I can guarantee a walk in the woods, dark night searching the sky offers much wisdom. The answer may not be apparent at that moment; however, I can pretty much promise you the response will come; even if it's a hoot owl staring at you in the middle of a day. All you need do is stay in the moment and pay attention. Your curious mind may have doubts or make judgments, just instruct your Head chatter to be silent. That is how one learns to listen to their Heart! Oh, and Thank you, Phil for the "heads up" and for sharing your wisdom of a Nature. Events: Speaking of Sky Nation, our next Full Moon is March 3, which will also be a full lunar eclipse. It is referenced as the Worm Moon. Native Americans named Full Moon's by what was happening in Nature. In this case, the Worm Moon garners its name from the vitally important worm that is respected for its contributions to the richness of soil. They are consummate grand recyclers transforming waste into crucial nutrients plants require for healthy growth. Yet another example of the natural flow of life given by Nature. Consider gazing at this Worm Full Moon and remembering how change can be happening underneath the surface even if it is not seen or recognized all that is required is surrendering to the infinite possibilities! No need to kick your head in gear, simply trust and "pay attention." Saturday, March 7, from 1-4p.m. is our first "Using the Mandala as a Compass" retreat. It was scheduled to give attendees the opportunity to create a Mandala of their own and use it as a vision board for 2026. If you wish to know more about working in coordination with the Natural world, this is a great beginning place. Deadline to sign up is March 4. Simply contact Vicky, [email protected] or on the contact link on our website. www.headtothearttalks.com . More information will be sent upon signing up. It recently occurred to me that many who read these blogs and explore this website may wonder, "Why all this focus on a Mandala?" Many years ago I learned about, "The Sacred Wheel of Life," as a way to understand the human experience. That is to say, what gives life meaning, and how do we find happiness, and for that matter, what is happiness? Centuries ago life was based solely on survival, and as civilization expanded, there seemed to be more time to think about the possibilities beyond simply surviving. During my own personal search for understanding the meaning of life, exploring that question took me on a journey into other cultures and their consensus of the meaning of life.
Being brought up in the teachings of the Christian faith spurred my curiosities. Learning the importance of knowing there was a source greater than this world brought great comfort to my heart. As a result, as an adult I began to explore other expressions of connection to a higher source outside the Christian faith. It was the simplicity of the ancient ways of the indigenous peoples around the world, including those of this country, that led me to the teachings of the Mandala. The word Mandala originated from Sanskrit, the ancient language of India, and where it translates to "circle," or "container of essence" which was used to represent a human's sacred walk in life. I have always sought to find the common thread that runs through all cultures in order to assist myself and ultimately others, with making sense of life, and support mutual understanding of all of life, including nonhumans inhabitants of this world. The Using the Mandala as a Compass retreat being offered, Saturday, March 7, from 1-4 p.m. opens the door to a broader, yet simple way to understanding life. In this great time of upheaval, this simple way of understanding the basic needs of every human being, combined with the seasons of nature, and indigenous teachings of the seven sacred directions offers a doorway into a broader, more personal connection with all inhabitants on this beautiful planet. Check out the Community Events link for more information along with past participants responses. If you have wondered, "Mandala?" hopefully this peaks your interest into attending. While our thinking mind ask questions, it is our heart that guides us to those answer. Working together, the ever wondering mind and passionate heart find peace. Coupled together, all sorts of dreams and possibilities become reality. I promise you will gain a simplier, more efficient way to live life with intention and purpose. You will also leave with a personal Mandala started during the retreat, to take home and complete as the teachings unfold in your heart. Always from the Heart, Vicky Our next Deepening into Wisdom Circle will be Thursday, February 19, from 6:30-8p.m. Join us and connect with other "seekers" looking for that "common thread" that adds to the richness of everyday life. We will have a special treat added this month with a guest sharing some wisdom they have gained over the past several years. |
