What an amazingly beautiful winter we have had so far. February 1 at 5:09 p.m. the full moon, commonly referred to as the Snow Moon, heralds in Febrary as it sheds light on the abundance of beautiful snow. It certainly has earned its name this year! Earth on the northern hemisphere will be glistening sparkles of every hue as the bright full moon appears in the night sky. This winter wonderland offers many teachings for we "humans" to consider as we sit in the darkness of winter. What an opportunity to dream and consider what and how we would like to "show up" in our lives and in the world. There is so much for which to be grateful! In light of all the upheaval around the world, and especially in our country, now would be a good time to consider what new growth will appear as a result of the chaos. The "Treasures of the Sky Nation" offers us some grand teachings; and an abundance of it is precisely what we need. Consider the gifts the snowflake offers: Each snowflake is a divinely designed, unique piece of creation, and as the saying goes, "No two snowflakes are alike." And yet, when each flake falls, collectively it is referred to as snow. Actually, a series of snowflakes can become an avalanche. It all begins with one. I would say that is precisely what we are seeing displayed "On the streets of Minnesota." Each unique individual has become a collective for change through their interconnectedness, and from that humility and passion, they are having a great impact on our seemingly disconnectedness in the world. From that view, I am confident great growth and change will become the basis by which our world will "rise from the ashes as the Phoenix" and become an even stronger, more compassionate UNITED States! Now that's the "Interconnectedness" I wish to see more of in the world! Another teaching from the purity and beauty of snow is that of impermanence. Just as we know for certain Spring will appear, we can more easily manage the often frustrating elements of a snowy winter. All we can do is stay present, in the moment and appreciate the opportunity to enjoy being with those we love along with the extra time of winter to dream. Realigning our focus to the newness Spring offers, provides us the opportunity to imagine the possibilities and choices from which we can begin another walk around the Sacred Circle of Life. That is another interconnectedness that is important to remember when life seems difficult, "Every thing passes." The impermanence of every situation offers us time to lean into knowing, "This too shall pass!" Can you imagine how life will change when we truly allow this truth to become part of our Interconnectedness to life . . . . I can! I see the hues of green and the diverse colors of Spring beneath that beauty, purity and teachings of our abundant snow! As most of you probably already know, another big event in February that is related to our Interconnectedness is that of the arrival of the Monks in Washington DC. What a powerful example of compassion, dedication and determination to "Walk for Peace." Their pilgrimage began in Texas and they will have traveled 2,300 miles by foot through all of winter's weather. They will arrive on February 13. Sit with that and consider what it has taken for those 19 monks to have stayed true to their mission. Many people along the way have offered whatever was needed to those dedicated human beings. Just as those dedicated individuals in Minnesota, they are doing it for the world. You, too, can join both groups by examining your day-to-day life and determining what you might be willing to do to "Be what you want to see more of in the World." From my heart to yours, "I see you!" Vicky P.S. Speaking of "Interconnectedness" consider checking out our Deepening into Wisdom circle being held on Thursday, February 19, from 6:30-8p.m. You would be yet another snowflake in our abundant gifts of snow!

What a flurry of gatherings the past couple of months have offered. Being a person who prefers the serenity of home and an evening chatting with a few good friends, it seems quite nice to have the next couple of months with an occasional visit. Many people love the hustle and bustle of visiting people they typically are too busy with life, to spend much time together. I suppose it is the energy of all the festivities, colored lights, eating of rich foods, gift-exchanging and such, that comes to a complete halt, that makes this time of year one of calm contemplation. It is a time that allows us the space to quietly reflect on life's complexities in order to find clarity. Winter is a time to sit with a question until the truth reveals itself, or the dream becomes clear.
Our "Deepening into Wisdom" circle was created as a time and place to do just that. It is a sweet, supportive place that offers the warmth and community of others also seeking a place to "comtemplate." Dancing Flame Medicine Lodge was established in 2004 upon my return from 7 years in NC. My heart called me to those mountains to assist me with moving into the latter stage of my life. With my children grown and on their own, I had no idea how I would manage life. It was that journey that took me to a Cherokee teacher that re-introduced me to what I knew as a child . . . that a source greater than myself was always with me and that being in nature was my deepest connection to that "something greater." Hence, I was never alone! After apprenticing his teachings and ceremonies for 13 years, and sitting in circle every Monday for 7 years, it was time to come "Back home again to Indiana" and offer a place for others to re-connect to their "within place;" their "something greater." These words are shared from my heart to yours, to invite you to listen to the small voice within and see if visiting our Deepening into Wisdom circle next Thursday, January 15 is something that brings an affirmative nudge. If not next week, we meet every third Thursday of the month, 6:30p-8p. Explore our website and listen with your "heart's ears!" There is a lot of information that will provide a good idea what this community is all about! Chances are, you may bring something that adds to our community, and to "The richness of Gathering." Always from the Heart, Vicky |
